This stage passes so quickly — and a sitter session is a beautiful way to pause and capture it.
As a baby photographer in Cheltenham, I love photographing older babies when they are beginning to sit confidently but haven’t quite reached the full-on toddler stage. Their expressions are changing, their personalities are emerging and suddenly there are so many little details you want to remember.
From cheeky grins and belly laughs to curious little looks, chubby hands and tiny toes, these photographs capture your baby exactly as they are at this moment.
And, of course, it isn't only about photographing your baby. Sitter sessions are also about capturing your connection as a family — cuddles with Mum and Dad, kisses, giggles and those little moments of love that happen naturally between you.
What is a sitter photography session?
A sitter session is a relaxed baby photoshoot designed for older babies who are able to sit independently.
There is no strict age because every baby develops differently, but sitter sessions are often suitable from around 6 to 9 months.
This is such a wonderful stage to photograph because your baby can sit and interact with the camera, but they may not yet be constantly crawling or running away!
Most importantly, your baby doesn't need to sit perfectly still or smile on cue.
I keep sessions relaxed and baby-led, allowing plenty of time for your little one to settle, explore and show us their personality.

My Cheltenham photography studio is a calm and welcoming space where your baby can feel comfortable.
I follow your baby's lead and use play, interaction and plenty of patience to capture those natural expressions and connections.
Some of my favourite photographs happen between the planned portraits — a spontaneous giggle, a curious expression, tiny fingers reaching towards Mum or Dad, or that wonderful moment when your baby looks at you and smiles.

Although your baby is the star of the session, I always encourage parents to be involved too.
You might have photographs of your baby sitting beautifully on their own, followed by cuddles with Mum, kisses from Dad, playful moments together and close-up photographs of those tiny details you never want to forget.
These photographs tell a much bigger story than a collection of baby portraits.
They capture your family as you are right now.
Because one day those tiny hands will be bigger. The chubby cheeks will change. The little expressions that make you laugh today will become memories.
Your photographs give you something tangible to look back on and remember exactly how this chapter felt.

Sitter Session FAQs
What age is best for a sitter session?
Sitter sessions are generally suitable for babies from around 6–9 months, but development is more important than age. The ideal time is when your baby can sit independently and confidently but isn't yet constantly on the move.
What if my baby isn't sitting completely independently yet?
That's absolutely fine. If your baby is close to sitting independently, get in touch and we can discuss whether they are ready. Every baby develops at their own pace, so there is no need to compare them with other babies.
Can parents be included in the sitter session?
Absolutely. I actually encourage it! Sitter sessions aren't only about your baby's individual portraits. We can capture cuddles, kisses, smiles and natural moments between you and your little one too.
Where does the sitter photoshoot take place?
Sitter sessions take place in my Cheltenham photography studio, on location or in the comfort of your home.
What should we wear for a sitter session?
I recommend choosing simple, comfortable clothing in colours that complement each other. Whites, creams, beige and soft neutral tones work particularly beautifully for timeless photographs, but you should always choose something that feels like you.
You are also welcome to bring two or three outfits for your baby if you'd like some variety.
Can we include a special outfit or prop?
Yes. If there is a meaningful outfit, toy or small personal item you'd love included, please bring it along. I prefer to keep photographs simple and timeless, but personal details can make your baby's gallery even more special.
What happens if my baby is unsettled?
Babies don't always arrive ready to smile for the camera! We can take breaks for cuddles, feeding, changing or simply giving your baby some time to explore.
I never expect babies to perform or smile on demand. My approach is patient and baby-led, allowing us to capture genuine expressions and moments as they happen.
Can we have seasonal or themed photographs?
Yes. Alongside timeless portraits, we can incorporate a simple seasonal theme such as autumn or Christmas, or create something personal to your family. We can discuss your ideas before the session.
Can siblings be included?
Yes, siblings can be included in the session. We can capture photographs of your baby individually as well as some beautiful moments between siblings and the whole family.
When should I book my sitter session?
I recommend getting in touch once your baby is approaching the sitting stage. Because every baby develops differently, we can choose a date that works around their development rather than focusing on a specific age.
If your baby has just started sitting independently, it could be the perfect time to book.
